In partnership with Climate Film Festival, Global Rise: Stories for the Future is hosting The City as Commons: New Stories of Climate Justice – a series of gatherings to ideate and explore new climate justice stories that meet the challenge of the moment in New York City, and move people to action.

During our first gathering, over thirty-five participants heard directly from environmental justice organizations in NYC, including WE ACT for Environmental Justice, Waterfront Alliance and Climate Imaginarium. In breakout groups we practiced generating new storylines.

On July 14th, for our second of three gatherings, we will workshop story proposals submitted from the public and continue developing them throughout the summer with our creative team. Selected projects will be presented at an event during the Climate Film Festival in September 2026.
